The Department of Firearms Training was established in 1962 on the basis of the Department of Missile Troops and Artillery of the Lviv Higher Military and Political School.
After the reorganization of the school in 2005 into the Lviv Institute of Land Forces of Lviv Polytechnic National University, the Department of Firearms Training was organizationally part of the Faculty of Combat Use of Forces.
The department's task is to train officers of the Army who are able to skillfully use the firepower of weapons, confidently control the fire of subordinate units, and possess methodological skills that allow them to properly train and educate subordinates.
With the strengthening of the economic power of the state, the reorganization of military units and subdivisions of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the department is constantly receiving the most modern models of weapons and combat vehicles, optoelectronic simulators for personal mastery of the techniques and methods of accurate fire and the rules of small arms and grenade launchers by cadets, complex simulators of armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles and tanks for students to master the techniques and methods of accurate fire and rules of firing from the standard weapons of combat vehicles, to control the fire of units (firearms) during combat missions.
In different years, the department was headed by Colonels Siburov V.E., Putsenko I.I., Stukalin A.M., Rudkovsky O.M., Bokachev S.V., Slyusarenko A.V., Synyshyn P.R., Vasyliv Y.I.
Since January 2021, the Department of Firearms Training has been headed by Colonel Sidor R.I. The department includes servicemen who served in the area of the anti-terrorist operation in eastern Ukraine, have practical experience in individual training of servicemen and the use of units of various branches of the armed forces in various types of combat in the current situation.
