International military cooperation

During 2019-2020 years the personnel of the National Army Academy and its subordinated units took an active part in international military cooperation activities. 

Among the main international military cooperation activities it is worth noting the following: 

- Participation of the President of Ukraine in the opening ceremony of the Ukrainian-American command and post exercise “Rapid Trident-2020”; 
- Visit of the President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly; 
- An external meeting of the Chiefs of the General Staffs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the Republic of Poland. 

During 2019-2020 years the National Army Academy was visited by the representatives of the United States Senate and Congress, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, the Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Denmark, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Ukraine, the Commander of the United States Army Europe, the Commander of the United States Army's 7th Army Training Command in Europe, the Commander of the Canadian Joint Operations Command, the Chief of the United States Office of Defense Cooperation in Ukraine, the Defence Attache of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine, the Defence Attache of the Embassy of the Republic of Korea to Ukraine, the Commandant of the United States Air War College, the NATO Adviser on NCO development and the NATO Adviser on professional military education.

In 2019 the Commandant of the National Army Academy in the composition of the delegation of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine visited military education establishments of the Kingdom of Denmark: Royal Danish Defence College and Royal Danish Military Academy, and also Guard Hussar Regiment, Combat training Center of the Armed Forces of Denmark. 

At the same time officers and cadets of the National Army Academy had an opportunity to take a part in International weeks, which were held in Georgia (National Defence Acadamy, Gori), in the Republic of Lithuania (the General Jonas Žemaitis Military Academy), in Germany (Officers School of the German Army, Dresden). 

Every year the representatives of the National Army Academy participate in the ceremony of graduation of young officers in the General Tadeusz Kościuszko Military Academy of Land Forces (Wrocław, Republic of Poland). 

In order to develop bilateral cooperation and to exchange experience the representatives of foreign military educational establishments visit the National Army Academy every year. Particularly, in 2020 the National Army Academy was visited by cadets of the US Military Academy West Point. Also, scientific and pedagogical staff of military educational establishments of France visits the National Army Academy every year in order to hold classes on French for cadets of the Academy. 

Participation of the representatives of the National Army Academy in events in the framework of NATO Defense, Education Enhancement Program and events under the supervision of the foreign instructors

Scientific and pedagogical workers of the National Army Academy continue to take an active part in events (seminars, symposiums under the supervision of NATO experts) provided within the NATO Defense, Education Enhancement Program (DEEP). 

Together with the foreign military advisers (from the Armed Forces of Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark and Germany) and with DEEP experts the National Army Academy continues its work on the enhancement of the context of curriculum for cadets and participants of Courses. 

Jointly we improved curriculums on “Leadership course”, which is being held here satisfactory for the second year in succession. 

In order to introduce this pilot course in other military educational institutions on the base of the National Army Academy the conference on planning of professional military training of officers of tactical level with the participation of foreign and DEEP experts was held. 

Also with the support of the representatives of the Land Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, DEEP experts and foreign advisers the pilot “Captains’ Career Course” was organized and conducted in the National Army Academy. 

Activities with the participation of international organizations and foreigners: 

- Seminar on the scientific activity development in accordance with NATO standards; 
- The 27-th International medical conference; 
- Artillery training course for the representatives of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Estonia and the Republic of Finland; 
- Instructors training course under the supervision of instructors of the Armed Forces of the Great Britain (operation “Orbital”); 
- Instructors training course under the supervision of Group of British military advisers; 
- Seminar on building integrity, transparency and reducing corruption risks in defense and security sectors. 

In 2019, after a 3 years break, on the base of the National Army Academy NATO Days were held. The NATO delegation was headed by the Chief of the Department of the Cooperation with NATO-member states of the Main Directorate on Partnership of the Allied Command Operations, Colonel Igor Tabulov Truta.

Conduction of International military exercises: 

Traditionally, at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center annual Ukrainian-American command-staff exercises “Rapid Trident - 2019” and “Rapid Trident - 2020” were conducted. Exercise “Rapid Trident – 2019” was the most large-scale exercise in recorded history. 

To increase the level of interoperability between units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the USA, NATO – members and NATO – partners states the “Joint Multinational Training Group – Ukraine” (JMTG-U), which includes the representatives of the Armed Forces of the Great Britain, Canada, the Kingdom of Denmark, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Republic of Lithuania, the Republic of Poland and the USA continues its work. 

Starting from 2019, 4 brigades of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will be trained on the base of the Combat Training Center under the supervision of the foreign instructors every year.

Participation of the National Army Academy personnel in International exercises: 

Regional exercise “REGEX 2019” (Veles, North Macedonia); 

Multinational exercises “Combined Resolve – 12” and “Combined Resolve – 14” (Hohenfels, Germany); 

Multinational exercise “Saber Junction – 2019” (Hohenfels, Germany); 

“Maple Arch – 2019” exercise (Zhytomyr, Ukraine).
