Educational work at the Department of Engineering Mechanics (weapons and equipment of military engineering forces)

Body

The department trains specialists in the following areas: military sciences, national security, state border security; electrical engineering; transportation. Specialties: weapons and military equipment; electric power engineering, electrical engineering and electromechanics; military administration (by types of the Armed Forces); troops (forces) supply; road transport and specializations: weapons and equipment of engineering troops; artillery reconnaissance systems, devices and instruments; missile systems and devices; management of actions of mechanized troops; management of tank troops; management of artillery units; management of engineering units of troops and forces; moral and psychological support in units, on ships (by type of Armed Forces); automobiles and automotive facilities.

The department trains specialists in 13 disciplines: higher mathematics, theoretical mechanics, applied mechanics, dynamics and stability of engineering structures, research methods and patent law, machine parts, theory of mechanisms and machines, material resistance, fundamentals of thermal engineering, descriptive geometry, engineering and computer graphics, performance materials, and theory of technical systems.

When teaching all disciplines, the department's teachers try to link the basic material to a particular military specialty (direction). This is to some extent successful, because all the teachers have received military education, and most of them served in the Armed Forces in positions similar to those prepared by the National Academy. For example, in the sections on analytical geometry, differential equations, and theoretical mechanics, cadets are emphasized from different angles on such issues as external ballistics (bullets, guided projectiles), factors that affect it, the phenomenon of kickback, etc, in the sections of probability theory and mathematical statistics - conditional and unconditional probability of hitting a given object; in the sections of material resistance - thermal stress and thermal deformation of barrels during firing, their impact on the speed of the bullet's departure from the gun barrel, etc.

At the department, the educational process is carried out in accordance with the requirements of the programs of a particular discipline. In order to fulfill them, the department's teachers have developed not only textbooks and lecture notes in the relevant disciplines, but also guidelines for coursework in applied mechanics, machine parts, and the theory of mechanisms and machines. Their electronic versions are available in the MOODLE system on the department's website. All of this allows cadets to complete their coursework in a timely manner.

The department's faculty members systematically work with 4th and 5th year cadets who are completing their bachelor's and qualification works. Since its inception, the department has trained more than 60 masters.

To assess the cadets' residual knowledge, they take tests in the disciplines of applied mechanics, higher mathematics, and descriptive geometry, which is confirmed by the results of the knowledge gained.
