The Laboratory of Materials Science and Analytical Research is located in room 328 of the educational building No. 3 of the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy. The laboratory was established in 2015. The laboratory is supervised by Associate Professor Serhii Korolko. Together with him, the highly qualified head of the laboratory, Olha Nadala, implements all the curator's ideas. Yurii Shabatura, Head of the Department of Electromechanics and Electronics, takes an active part in the development of the laboratory.

The laboratory is intended for conducting laboratory classes in the following disciplines: ● “Materials Science”, ● “Technologies of Structural Materials and Materials Science”, ● “Metrology, Hydraulics and Chemistry of Powders and Explosives”.
The main installations of the laboratory:
![]() A device for determining the adhesion and cohesion of adhesive materials. |
Refractometer (used to determine the refractive index and concentration of aqueous solutions) |
![]() Installation for determining the thermal coefficient of linear expansion of materials |
![]() Setup for preparation of thin sections and grinds of material for microscopic studies |
![]() Installation for determining the beginning and end of curing of polymeric materials and inorganic binders |
![]() Setup for determining the modulus of elasticity by bending |
The laboratory is equipped with the following devices: ● psychrometric hygrometer (designed to determine air humidity), ● pH meter 150 MI (determination of the pH of the environment of solutions and liquids), ● muffle furnace SNOL (calcination of metal samples, burning and calcination of some sediments), ● drying cabinet SP-50 (drying samples of various materials and bulk substances), ● mechanical balance (determination of compression and tension force), ● flask heater (uniform heating of liquids), Technical electronic scales (weighing samples of materials, bulk solids, and liquids), ● Radiometer DP 5V military TERRA-P - digital household measuring of β- and γ-radiation levels to determine the radioactivity of natural background, ● Digital laboratory microscope with USB output and recording of information on digital media to display the structure and structure of the material. In addition, the material base of the laboratory is complemented by the developed rationalization proposals, which are good visual exhibits. Using all of this, highly qualified teachers and support staff are able to conduct high-quality and accessible laboratory and practical classes on the following topics ● Structural and physical properties of materials. Determination of moisture and water absorption of materials. Determination of the coefficient of thermal expansion of materials. Determination of the specific radioactivity of the natural background. Static tests of materials for strength and cleavage. Determination of the elastic modulus by bending. Microstructural analysis of materials. Determination of the hardness of materials. Analysis and identification of materials by their chemical activity on the example of silicon and calcium compounds. Corrosion of metals. Corrosion rate.
