A seventh-generation soldier, Grom became the youngest Hero of Ukraine at the age of 21. On February 24, 2022, he and his comrades stopped a column of Russian equipment advancing on Kharkiv. He later took part in the Kharkiv counteroffensive and the battles for Andriivka and Serebryanske Forestry. He was the commander of the Beshketnyky Sirka reconnaissance platoon, commanded an assault company in the 92nd Brigade, and headed the reconnaissance battalion in Kharkiv. He continues to serve today
Yevhen shared his personal combat stories with future officers, answered questions from cadets, and gave some friendly advice that will be useful both during training and when performing tasks. He was sincere and did not lecture. Such meetings are one of the tools for synchronizing military education with the battlefield and provide an opportunity to organically integrate cadets into the Ukrainian military community.
