Educational work at the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Military Leadership

The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Military Leadership teaches courses for cadets of all specialties of the National Army Academy, and is a graduating department for two specializations: “Moral and psychological support in units, on ships (by types of the Armed Forces)” and ‘Military Culturology’.

In total, the department's academic staff teaches more than 60 courses, including those for cadets of all specializations: “Military Psychology and Pedagogy”, ‘Psychological and Pedagogical Aspects of Military Leadership’, ‘Moral and Psychological Support for Training and Employment of the Armed Forces’, ‘Internal Communication Work in a Unit’, ‘Military Psychology (including Conflictology)’. 

The introduction of military education standards of NATO member states has led to changes in views on the acquisition of relevant knowledge and skills by future officers in accordance with the needs of the troops, which resulted in the introduction of the teaching of the academic disciplines "Military Leadership" and "Moral and Psychological Support of the Activities of Units" for cadets of all specialties from the 2019 academic year, and for the specializations "Moral and Psychological Support in Units, on Ships (by Types of the Armed Forces)" and "Military Culturology" - "Training Technologies in the Training and Education of Military Personnel" and "Psychology of Crisis Situations".

The main efforts of the academic staff of the department in the educational process are focused on:

- studying the theory and practice of moral and psychological support of activities in the system of humanitarian and social security in the units of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine 
- implementation of technology for the formation of leadership competencies in the educational process; 
- mastering by cadets the main areas of psychological support and application in the units of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine; 
- development of methodological and methodical foundations of military leadership, military pedagogy, military psychology and cultural studies, conflictology, deviantology, military ethics and aesthetics; 
- determining the main forms and methods of using technical means of propaganda in the system of information and propaganda support.

In order to improve the readiness of servicemen to perform tasks in extreme conditions and to build psychological resilience, stabilize their psychophysiological state, the department's academic staff continues to develop and implement comprehensive trainings on developing skills to work cohesively in a team, providing first aid, applying methods of rehabilitation and restoration of the mental state of servicemen, and hardening psychological resilience.

Today, the Department of Behavioral Sciences and Military Leadership has 49 members, including 37 academic staff members involved in teaching cadets. Of the 20 officers of the department, 16 participated in the Joint Forces Operation (Anti-Terrorist Operation) and the Russian-Ukrainian war.
