The Department of Behavioral Sciences and Military Leadership continues the long tradition of training military specialists in the humanities at the National Army Academy.
The department trains officers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the specialty “Cultural Studies” of the specialization “Military Cultural Studies” and the specialty “Support of Troops (Forces)” of the specialization “Moral and Psychological Support in Units, Ships (by types of the Armed Forces)”.
The main tasks of the department are:
- formation of the ideology of state-building in the minds of future officers, educating them on the national and historical traditions of the Ukrainian people and the Armed Forces;
- fostering high culture, moral qualities and aesthetic values in cadets through the implementation of cultural and educational activities and the organization of leisure activities for personnel;
- teaching cadets a systematic approach, forms and methods of conducting moral and psychological support activities;
- the practice of forming and developing leadership qualities of subordinate personnel, forming high moral, psychological and combat qualities necessary for military professional activity, successful performance of military duty, the practice of using techniques and methods of psychological and pedagogical influence on subordinates;
- implementation of a complex of cultural measures in the system of education, organization of leisure activities for personnel, creation and development of amateur artistic creativity in military units, promotion of further development of Ukrainian culture in the military environment.
The Department's academic staff includes 3 Doctors of Sciences (philosophical and pedagogical), 11 Candidates of Sciences (pedagogical, psychological, philosophical, art history, public administration, and law), 8 people have the academic title of Associate Professor, and 1 - Senior Researcher.
The academic staff of the Department conducts advanced training courses for the academic staff of the Academy.
The department teaches more than 40 academic disciplines, in particular for cadets of all specialties - “Moral and Psychological Support of Units”, “Military Psychology and Pedagogy”, “Psychological and Pedagogical Aspects of Military Leadership”, “Moral and Psychological Support of Training and Employment of the Armed Forces”, “Internal Communication Work in a Unit”, “Military Psychology (including Conflictology)”. In the 2019 academic year, the discipline “Military Leadership” was introduced for cadets of all specialties.
In recent years, the academic staff of the department has prepared for publication more than 20 teaching aids on psychological and pedagogical support of assigned tasks, formation of leadership qualities, cultural work in the troops, use of technical means of information during moral and psychological support activities.
The formation of skills of psychological support for the performance of service and combat missions of future officers is carried out at the Training Complex for Psychological Training of Personnel; the potential of the Center for Culture and Leisure, the Museum of History of the National Academy of Land Forces, modern technical means of information, in particular, the marching car club-printing house (PAK-D), as well as the necessary specialized classroom are fully used to gain experience of cultural work in the troops by cadets-culturalists.
