As part of the preparation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine units to perform tasks in the ATO area in eastern Ukraine and cooperation with NATO's Strategic Transformation Command (NATO's Strategic Transformation Command), an international course for countering improvised explosive devices is held annually at the International Peacekeeping and Security Center.
The course is designed to train tactical platoon-company specialists with the rank of sergeant major to prepare them for participation in anti-terrorist operations under conditions of increased threat of IEDs and to prepare them to plan and conduct training in these areas in subordinate units.
Mandatory knowledge of a foreign language (English) is not lower than 2-2-1-1 in accordance with STANAG 6001.
The course material is based on analytical, reporting and methodological material from practical experience gained in operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as the latest trends in counter-IED tactics in international peacekeeping operations.
Topics of the classes:
- tactics of attacks in the ATO and other countries by terrorist groups using improvised explosive devices;
- analysis and network of improvised explosive devices use;
- types of improvised explosive devices and principles of their operation;
- principles of terrain utilization;
- operations on equipment;
- protection of troops from attacks with the use of improvised explosive devices during patrolling, service at temporary and stationary checkpoints;
- electronic warfare against improvised explosive devices;
- operations against ambushes with the use of improvised explosive devices;
- methods of patrolling potentially dangerous areas;
- patrol actions in case of detection of improvised explosive devices;
- search operations: search of a person, search of a vehicle, search by the 5/25 method, search of a potentially dangerous area, search and placement of improvised explosive devices;
- tactical use of terrain;
- procedure for the use of force;
- practicing on the ground various options for patrol actions during an attack with the use of improvised explosive devices; - training specialists to plan and conduct exercises in these areas in subordinate units.
