The main efforts of the scientific and technical activities of the department are aimed at solving the problems of training, application and comprehensive support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The priority areas of scientific research of the department are: - studying the capabilities (capacities) of engineering troops to perform engineering support tasks in order to determine their optimal organizational and staffing structure; - problems of mathematical modeling of engineering support for combat operations of units and units; - research on the optimal combat order of engineering troops for the search and destruction of mines and improvised explosive devices (IEDs); - research on theoretical and methodological foundations in the field of engineering support of combat operations of units, including the experience of NATO member states; - implementation of NATO standards in the engineering management system to improve the effective performance of engineering support tasks; - studying options for performing tasks by engineering troops to set up and overcome engineering barriers and ways to improve their effectiveness; - research on improving the technical means of CBRN reconnaissance; - studying the problems of using engineered munitions.

The scientific potential of the department consists of four candidates of sciences: - Head of the department Colonel D.A. Okipnyak, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, research area 13.00.04 - Theory and Methods of Professional Education. Theme: “Formation of professional competence of future demining specialists in modern conditions”; - Deputy Head of the Department Lieutenant Colonel R.L. Kolos, Candidate of Historical Sciences, specialty 20.02.22 - Military History. Topic: “Training of officers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine based on the experience of the Military Engineering Institute in 1991-2000”; - Professor of the Department Colonel R.V. Kazmirchuk, Candidate of Military Sciences, specialty 20.01.01 - Military Art. Special topic; - Associate Professor of the Department Colonel A.M. Baranov, Candidate of Technical Sciences, specialty 20.02.14 - Arms and Military Equipment. Special topic. Among all types of scientific work of the department, a special place is occupied by the activities of the military science club, which is organized within the framework of the department's research. The main directions of research activity are to promote deep learning of academic disciplines by the club members, consideration of issues of the military and historical past of Ukraine and stages of military construction, modern development of engineering weapons; progressive mastering of the methodology of conducting independent military research work;studying the experience of military construction in Ukraine on the organization of combat training, operation, storage and modernization of engineering weapons; researching forms and methods of combat support for tactical engineering units during the Joint Forces Operation; participation in general academic, inter-university (forums), and all-Ukrainian competitions of scientific works. Over the years, the department, together with the Scientific Center of the Land Forces, has completed a number of relevant research works. The department is actively engaged in patent and license work, which has resulted in the annual receipt of utility model patents, as well as participation in the All-Army competition “Best Invention of the Year” from 2015 to the present, where it has won prizes, namely:

This direction is headed by the Head of the Department, Colonel D.A. Okipnyak. The scientific and pedagogical staff of the department carry out inventive and rationalization work to improve the design of engineering weapons. This is confirmed by the numerous certificates for their implementation received by the innovators. In order to publish the results of scientific research, the department has introduced a permanent departmental scientific and practical seminar, which aims to study and summarize the experience of using units of engineering troops and troops of radiation, chemical and biological defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in armed conflicts.
