In September 2005, the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi Lviv Military Institute of Lviv Polytechnic National University began preparatory work for teaching courses in the field of artillery officer training in accordance with the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of 26.05.05, No. 381 “On Measures to Optimize the Network of Higher Military Educational Institutions”. In November 2005, the Department of Missile Forces and Artillery was formed, which in a short time ensured the creation of the educational and material base for the future faculty of RViA, in particular, the department staff prepared, repaired and equipped the classroom fund, obtained samples of weapons and military equipment of RViA units, and worked out planning and methodological documents. On April 25, 2006, the Faculty of Missile Forces, Combat Use and Control of Ground Artillery and Artillery Intelligence Units began to be deployed on the basis of the Department of RViA. In 2013, the Department of Missile Forces and the Department of Combat Use of Ground Artillery Units were merged into the Department of Missile Forces and Artillery. In 2018, the Department of Missile Forces and Artillery was divided into the Department of Ground Artillery and the Department of Missile Forces. The Heads of the Department of Ground Artillery were: - Colonel A.T. Nikolayev - Candidate of Technical Sciences, Colonel V.I. Hrabchak - Candidate of Technical Sciences, S.S., Colonel V.V. Yakovenko - Colonel S.M. Sviderok - Candidate of Military Sciences Colonel V.V. Kuznetsov Currently, the Head of the Department of Ground Artillery is Colonel P.A. Kolennikov.
